青い残像 / Residual Blue は、フロッピーディスクへ記録する、デジタル写真普及初期のカメラで撮影した画像をもとに、サイアノタイプとして定着する写真作品です。

限られた容量、粗い解像度、記録媒体としてのフロッピーディスク。そこに保存された画像は、かつて新しい技術として未来を担っていたデジタル写真の、小さく制約を帯びた記録でもあります。私はその画像をデジタルネガへ変換し、紫外線と水によって和紙の上に焼き付けます。

サイアノタイプの青は、かつて設計図や青写真として未来を描くために使われた色でもあります。本作ではその青が、役目を終えて静かに残る人工物や風景を包み込み、記録を記憶へと変質させていきます。

デジタルデータとして生まれた小さな画像は、古典的な写真技法を通過することで、物質としての時間を帯びます。
青い残像 / Residual Blue は、かつて未来を担った技術と、役目を果たして静かに眠るものたちの気配を、青の中に留める試みです。

Residual Blue is a photographic series made from images captured with an early consumer digital camera that records onto floppy disks, then translated into cyanotype prints.

The images are shaped by limited storage, low resolution, and the fragile materiality of the floppy disk as a recording medium. Once associated with technological progress, These digital files now appear as delicate traces of technologies that once pointed toward the future. I convert them into digital negatives and expose them onto Japanese paper through ultraviolet light and water.

The blue of cyanotype carries an association with blueprints: a color once used to imagine and design what was to come. In this series, that blue surrounds quiet artificial structures and landscapes that have fulfilled their roles and now remain in stillness. Through this process, a record begins to shift into memory.

Small images born as digital data acquire physical time through an historical photographic process.
Residual Blue is an attempt to preserve, within blue, the quiet presence of technologies that once pointed toward the future, and of things that now rest after completing their purpose.
